A range of surgical procedures performed in the oral cavity that are typically less invasive and can often be done under local anesthesia in a dental clinic or outpatient setting. These procedures are usually straightforward and involve addressing conditions affecting the teeth, gums, jaw, or soft tissues of the mouth.
Wisdom teeth can be removed through normal extraction or might need surgical removal if they're positioned unfavorably. Different types of impacted wisdom teeth are classified based on their angulation and position
If the wisdom teeth are erupting correctly and causing any problem, the dentist may opt to observe their progress during routine check up.
If wisdom teeth are causing issues like impaction (improper growth) or resulting in pain, swelling or damage to neighboring teeth, the dentist might suggest extraction.
For impacted or severely problematic wisdom teeth, a surgical procedure may be necessary. This could involve surgery to remove wisdom teeth that are hidden beneath the gums
If wisdom teeth are causing symptoms such as pain or swelling during eruption, symptomatic relief measures such as the use of pain relievers or anti inflammatory drugs may be recommended.
Local anesthesia is injected to numb the area.
Creating and lifting a gum tissue flap for surgical access
the bone surrounding the tooth is carefully removed to create access.
The tooth may be cut into smaller pieces to make removal easier and minimize damage to surrounding structures. The wisdom tooth is gently loosened and removed
The surgical site is cleaned to remove any debris or infection. The gum is stitched back together, often using dissolvable sutures.
